GETTING STARTED WITH

 RAW FEEDING

Thank you for choosing ROAR.dog’s natural raw meals!
This guide will help you store, prepare, and transition them to a raw diet safely and smoothly.

Our wool liners harness the power of 100% pure sheep’s wool, nature’s greatest insulator, to keep your dog's raw food at the perfect frozen temperature for up to 48 hours.

Sustainable and eco-friendly, our liners are compostable and recyclable, enriching the soil as they decompose.

Reuse

  • Pet's bedding - keep your dogs (or cats, rabbits and the like!) nice and cozy!

  • Composting

  • Padding for plants

  • Soft toys (we've had some incredible examples!)

  • Birdhouse bedding

  • Many uses in the greenhouse

  • Needle felting

  • Liners for storage boxes - especially when moving house, keeping your precious items nicely protected

  • Be creative - make your own dog toys!

OUR PACKAGING

STEP 1 -

STORE IT RIGHT

Freeze on Arrival – Pop your raw food straight into the freezer to keep it fresh.

STEP 2 -

DEFROST SAFELY

All our foods are frozen and should stay that way until you're ready to use them. When it comes to defrosting, you have two options:

1- Best Method – Place a chubb in the fridge overnight for a controlled, safe defrost. This keeps it fresh and ready to serve the next day.

2- Alternative Method – If you need it sooner, leave a chubb somewhere cool (not warm) to speed up the process. Keep an eye on it to prevent over-thawing.

For easier handling, we recommend cutting through the packaging while the food is still frozen and removing it before thawing. Store in a sealed container. If needed, you can partially defrost for portioning and then refreeze.

Once fully thawed, the food will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.

STEP 3 -

SERVE & TRANSITION

You may be surprised to hear that switching your dog to a raw diet is super simple! The most effective approach is to make an immediate switch – think 'cold turkey' – from your dog's current diet to raw feeding...

1- Serve... your dog their usual meal in the evening

2- Portion it right… to make sure your dog is getting the right amount of raw food. Use our Raw Feeding Calculator at the bottom of this page or the table in our guide to find how much your dog should be eating DAILY. (Adult dogs should eat 2-3% of their body weight daily. For instance, a 10kg adult dog might need 200-300g per day)

3- Introduce... the raw diet the next morning, maintaining their regular feeding schedule.

If you prefer, you can choose to gradually mix in raw food while phasing out the old stuff over 3-5 days- just do what feels right for your dog. The key thing is that you've decided to make the switch, and whether you dive in immediately or take a few days, you're making the best choice!

What If My Dog Doesn’t Eat It Straight Away?

Don’t worry—this is totally normal-

Some dogs dive straight in, others are a bit unsure at first. If your pup has been on kibble for years, think of it like asking a lifelong crisp addict to suddenly switch to salad.

The truth is, dogs can become just as hooked on ultra-processed food as we can.

But here’s the good news: you are in control now. Your dog trusts you to make the right decisions for their health—and raw is absolutely the right one.

Here’s What to Do:

  • Put the raw meal down.

  • Walk away. No coaxing, no fuss.

  • Give it around 15 minutes.

  • If they haven’t touched it, pick it up (no drama) and pop it in the fridge.

  • Offer it again at their next mealtime.

Repeat that process if needed. Stay calm and confident—your dog will eat when they’re hungry.
No healthy dog will let itself starve.

Prefer a Gentler Approach?

That’s totally fine too. If you’d rather ease into things, you can mix their usual food with raw and gradually phase it out over 3–5 days. It’s not a race—do what feels right for your dog and your routine.

STEP 4 -

STORAGE & HYGIENE

Always store raw food in a sealed container on the bottom shelf of the fridge to prevent cross-contamination.

After handling raw food- wash your hands, utensils, and surfaces thoroughly, just like you would with raw meat for yourself.
